Review by Nathan Dufour
Alex Webster says that you should dig Brain Drill. Who am I to argue with Alex Webster? Nobody, that’s who. And neither are you. Go and buy this album.
Brain Drill are the first signing for a new Metal Blade marketing initiative aimed at getting new talent out into the metal world. Good for them, because every fan of extreme music absolutely needs to hear Brain Drill, and their debut album "Apocalyptic Feasting." Sounding like some strange amalgam of Origin, Exhorder, and Cryptopsy, Brain Drill grind forth with the aggression of a tunnel-boring machine. Nothing within the path of this monster will escape. There are enough time changes to confuse an international pilot, enough groove to shake anyone’s thing on the metal soul train, and enough outright pure metal magic to make jaws the world over drop in amazement. From the first intro of, well, the sound of a drill, to the final gravity blast and bass noodle, Brain Drill is absolutely bent on making their impact felt. Now all that is left to do is catch them live, preferably with Origin and a healthy dose of Tylenol. I personally have not heard anything this brutal and good in every way thus far in 2008. There is still time for the new Origin to come out, but Brain Drill have set the technical deathgrind bar very high indeed. So high in fact that perhaps none will be able to top the clinically precise insanity of "Apocalyptic Feasting." And really, Alex Webster likes it. You will too, I promise. Hails!
